I am interested in symbiosis and the genetic underpinnings thereof, particularly in fungi. In 2011 I completed my Ph.D. with Tom Bruns at the University of California Berkeley.  My work there focused on interactions between the mycorrhizal fungus Rhizopogon and the nonphotosynthetic, mycoheterotrophic plant Pterospora.  More information about my work there can be found at (http://nature.berkeley.edu/brunslab/people/vw.html).  I am currently in the May lab developing a model clade of boreal endophytes to examine using genomic approaches.
